Not All Marble Surfaces Are the Same

A kitchen countertop takes heat, acid, and heavy impact. A bathroom vanity faces constant moisture and cleaning products. A marble staircase must be polished to be beautiful but not dangerously slippery. A wall cladding panel needs a different approach from a horizontal floor. Each surface has its own demands — and requires a different tool, compound, and technique to get right.

Our surface-specific polishing service is built around this reality. We don't apply the same process to every surface. After assessing the marble type, surface orientation, use pattern, and existing condition, we design a treatment that is optimised for that specific surface. The result is polishing that not only looks better — it lasts longer and suits the surface's actual use.

Vertical & horizontal surfaces

Walls, floors, counters — all require different techniques and tooling

Anti-slip finish for staircases

Polished but safe — we calibrate the sheen to maintain traction

Food-safe compounds for kitchens

All compounds used on kitchen surfaces are certified food-safe

Surfaces We Polish

Six Surfaces — Each Treated Exactly Right

We work on all marble and natural stone surfaces in your home or commercial property. Here is what we do for each type.

Kitchen

Countertops & Slabs

Kitchen marble faces acid, heat, and cutting pressure daily. We use fine-grit honing and food-safe crystallising compounds to restore the sheen and apply a stain-resistant impregnator. We can also repair chips and etch marks around the sink and cooktop areas.

Bathroom

Vanities & Wet Areas

Bathroom marble develops hard water deposits, soap scum, and mould staining. We clean, descale, and polish the vanity top, basin surrounds, and shower walls using moisture-resistant compounds and apply a water-repellent sealer that prevents buildup.

Staircase

Stairs & Landings

Marble staircases suffer concentrated wear on the nosing and tread edges. We polish to a safe satin finish (not full mirror, which can be slippery) and fill any chips or edge cracks. Anti-slip strips can be accommodated without affecting the polished sides.

Fenestration

Window Sills & Surrounds

Sun exposure and condensation cause particular damage to marble window sills — yellowing, staining, and fine surface cracking. We clean, hone, polish, and seal with a UV-resistant impregnator that prevents sun-driven discolouration from returning.

Feature Element

Fireplace Surrounds

Fireplace marble is often the centrepiece of a living room — yet it yellows and stains from smoke, heat cycling, and cleaning products. We restore the surround to its original white or veined appearance using targeted stain treatment and fine polishing around the architectural details.

Wall Feature

Wall Cladding & Panels

Vertical marble surfaces require hand-polishing tools and different abrasive pressures compared to floors. We work section by section on wall panels, feature walls, pillars, and cladding — restoring the same depth of gloss you see on newly installed marble.

How It Works

Surface Polishing — Our Process

Adapted for each surface, consistent in quality.

01

Surface & Use Assessment

We identify the surface type, marble variety, and how the surface is used. A kitchen countertop, a bathroom wall, and a fireplace each need a completely different approach — we design the treatment before we begin.

02

Cleaning & Repair

We start with a deep clean to remove wax, products, and soiling. Chips, cracks, and etch marks are repaired with colour-matched epoxy or filling compound before any abrasive work begins.

03

Surface-Specific Polishing

We use the correct tooling for the surface — angle grinders for vertical surfaces, planetary machines for countertops, and hand tools for intricate areas. We work through the appropriate grit sequence for the marble type and desired finish.

04

Sealing & Protection

We apply the correct sealer for the surface and its use environment — stain-resistant for kitchens, water-repellent for bathrooms, UV-resistant for window sills. Every surface gets the sealer it actually needs.

Common Questions

Surface Polishing — FAQs

Can you polish marble countertops without damaging them?

Yes, absolutely — in fact, professional polishing protects countertops better than leaving them unpolished. We use food-safe compounds specifically formulated for countertop use, and our techniques are calibrated to remove surface-level damage without reducing the slab thickness meaningfully. After polishing, we apply a penetrating stain-resistant sealer that makes the surface far more resistant to oil, wine, and acidic spills than the original factory finish.

Will polished marble staircases be slippery?

This is a very important consideration, and we take it seriously. For staircases, we stop polishing at a satin finish (typically 800–1200 grit) rather than going to a full mirror finish. This produces a visually attractive, restored appearance while maintaining sufficient surface texture for safe grip. The nosing (front edge) of each step is treated with extra care. Where clients need additional safety assurance, we can accommodate anti-slip inserts along the tread while polishing the rest of the step surface.

How do you polish vertical wall surfaces?

Vertical marble surfaces require angle grinders with cup wheels and smaller, handheld polishing tools — very different from the large planetary machines used on floors. Our technicians are trained specifically in vertical surface polishing, including working around cornices, joints, and fixed fittings. The compound viscosity is also different for vertical work — thicker formulations that don't run or drip onto surrounding surfaces.

Can you remove hard water stains from bathroom marble?

Yes. Hard water stains are caused by calcium and mineral deposits from repeated water contact — very common in Pune homes given the local water quality. We remove these using a combination of targeted descaling treatments and fine-grit honing to remove the deposited layer, followed by polishing and application of a hydrophobic sealer that prevents water from beading on the surface and leaving fresh deposits. After treatment, bathroom marble is significantly easier to keep clean.

How long does surface polishing take?

Surface polishing time depends on the area and condition. A kitchen countertop (typically 15–25 sq ft of marble) takes 3–4 hours. A full bathroom including vanity, shower walls, and floor can take 4–6 hours. A marble staircase with 15–20 steps takes a full day. We give you an accurate time estimate during the free inspection, and we work efficiently to minimise disruption to your home or business.
